Greetings, KMGMA
colleagues -
As the new Kansas forum representative to the American
College of Medical Practice Executives, I want to invite
anyone interested in pursuing career advancement through
MGMA and the College to take that next step. Certification
and Fellowship not only validates your expertise in the
field of medical practice management, but it also shows your
employer or potential employers that you have demonstrated a
high level of knowledge within the eight domains.
This coming year will bring some exciting changes at the
College. In an effort to strengthen the certification
program and insure the integrity and value of the ACMPE
certification program and the credentials, the following
changes have been adopted:
-
In order to
advance from Nominee to Certified member, a member must
obtain and submit 50 hours of continuing education. This
is unchanged from the previous requirement.
-
Only Certified
Members and Fellows need to maintain certification by
submitting 50 hours of continuing education every three
years. Nominees have been excluded from this
requirement. The board affirmed that the maintenance
portion of the requirement serves as "maintenance of
certification", therefore it only applies to Certified
Members and Fellows.
-
For those
Certified Members and Fellows that do not meet the
maintenance requirement, their membership status will
revert to Nominee but their membership will not be
cancelled.
-
A new activity
of reading a published article that must include a quiz
or assessment has been added as an eligible activity
toward continuing education credit.
-
A new tracking
tool will be available to assist the Nominee through the
process to certification.
-
Next year will
also see the College outsource the computerized exam
delivery to a professional testing company. Outsourcing
exam administration will allow the college to offer
testing in more than 100 locations across the United
States.
If you have not
joined MGMA or the American College of Medical Practice
Executives, consider doing so today and taking that next
step in your career path.
I am in the process of developing a mentorship program to
help you take the next step. Please join me for a short
30-minute introduction to the American College of Medical
Practice Executives and the certification process at the
Fall KMGMA meeting - Wednesday evening, September 16, in
Salon A.
